The Petrified Forest
Schriftsteller Alan Squier trampt durch Amerika, landet an einer Tankstelle in Arizona, lernt in der dortigen Kneipe Kellnerin Gabrielle kennen und wird, als er weiter zieht, von Gangstern gezwungen, zur Tanke zurück zu kehren. Die Gang bereitet ihre Flucht nach Mexiko vor. Alan überschreibt seine Lebensversicherung auf Gabrielle und bittet Gangsterboss Duke Mantee, ihn zu töten. Duke lehnt ab. Die Polizei stürmt die Kneipe, wobei Alan und Duke ums Leben kommen. Alan stirbt in Gabrielles Armen.
