Die Brautwerbung ist ein einziger Machtkampf, Witz und Schlagfertigkeit seine Waffen. Als die Frischvermählten nach Padua zurückkehren, hat Petruchio seine Wette zu gewinnen, nach der seine Katharina die Fügsamste aller Frauen sei: es gelingt ihm mit ihrer Hilfe. So setzt sich am Ende doch die weibliche Raffinesse durch.
