Olive Crown ist eine begabte Meeresbiologin. Auf einem Tauchgang in den Tiefen des Atlantischen Ozeans passiert allerdings ein traumatischer Unfall. Die erste Folge ihrer Nahtoderfahrung ist, dass sie ihren Job verliert. Ein Glück, dass ihr treuer und idealistischer Freund Matt für sie da ist. Was er nicht weiß, ist, dass Olive eine nichtweltliche Kreatur aus dem Meer mit nach Hause genommen hat, um sie zu erforschen. Schon bald wird Olive von schrecklichen Albträumen geplagt und ihr wird klar, dass sie und die Kreatur eine Verbindung teilen, die sie dazu treibt, das zu tun, was sie will.
